I am glad to show you my latest bags! I modified my bag patterns and I made two extra large totes. These are my gifts for the new moms in our family. This is the "Nicole" tote bag. I named it after the name of my youngest sister. My nephew will come into the world tomorrow so she needs this bag. You can see its size, it's really big. 17.5-22'' (top and bottom) wide x 14.5" tall x 5" … [Read more...]
New bag
A few months ago we left without electricity almost 24 hours. What to do without computer and sewing machine ?As I don't have enough patience for stitching by hand, I cut the pieces for a few new bags.Unfortunately I don't have time to stitch them. This is the only one I finished, my sister Oana asked me to make it for one of her friends. This heavy cotton canvas from Ikea is fabulous for bags. … [Read more...]
Swatches…
Could anyone resist to these colors? I have a small piece of every color ! The owner of a shop (in my town) that sells fabrics for interior decorating gave me (for free) a few boxes filled with swatches like these, after I explained her what is patchwork. Most of them are polyester fabrics and I can’t use them for quilts. But they are wonderful for bags. Most of the pieces measure about 8”-10” … [Read more...]
The last miniature bag
I was so glad to see you like my miniature bags ! Thank you all for the nice messages! I had no intention to make another one ! But looking at my collection I noticed that only Amelie has tiny sisters and Belle doesn't have any. So that I had to make a mini-Belle bag. I used ric-rac for outlining the pockets and for straps... I stitched the ric-rac by hand and of course, it is not … [Read more...]
Miniature bags (or…I lost my mind !)
I was serious when I said I would like a collection of miniature bags. Last evening at 8 PM, after a full day of quilting, I started to make other two miniatures. The smallest is 25% from my original Amelie bag. I love them but it wasn't piece of cake to make them....If I would have had a miniature sewing machine, a miniature iron, even miniature hands... I used ribbon for … [Read more...]
New portfolios
I followed my own tutorial (how glad I am that I wrote it!) and I made two new portfolios. These are improved versions ! They are stiffer...much more stiffer than the original version. Instead of quilting weight fabric I used heavyweight cotton. And instead of batting, between the two layers of fabric I used for one of the portfolios Timtex interfacing, and for the other I used … [Read more...]
A bag, but a special one…
I couldn't help myself and I made another Amelie bag.Could you tell seeing this picture that there is something strange with this bag ?If you would say it is a miniature, you would be right. I love to make miniatures so I just had to try and make a miniature bag.The small bag is 35% from the original size and measures 4"x5" (10x 12.5 cm). Here are the fabric pieces and the paper templates. When I … [Read more...]
My new patterns- for bags !
In the last months so many people asked for a pattern for my bags and now I am happy (but more than happy, I am relieved !) that I finally finished them. First of all, I want to thank to a few friends who helped me a lot. They tested the patterns, made a few bags, reviewed the instructions and even my English, helped me find a name for them... Thank you Lynn, Marion, Janet, Renata, Michele ( … [Read more...]
Quilted portfolio tutorial or sewing a gift for a little girl
I made a notebook and pencil case for the little girl of my friends. I added to it even handles. She is six years old and loves to read and write. I think she will enjoy this little "bag" because anywhere she goes, she carries with her some books, notebooks and pencils... You can see here two improved versions. Size -15" x 12.5" (when it is folded ) This case has been made to … [Read more...]
Shopping Bag Tutorial
If you want to sew a useful gift for someone, a reusable shopping bag is one of the best options. I have made a few for my family members, as Christmas gifts, and they are used all the time. Take this opportunity and go green, use fewer plastic bags! These are not large grocery bags, I designed a pattern that uses 2 half-yards of fabric or 4 fat quarters - there is an option for whatever you … [Read more...]
