If you have a few beautiful fabric pieces that you don’t know what to use for and need a relaxing sewing experience, how about a few heart placemats and coasters? I took pictures, wrote instructions and I am glad to share them with you!

Whether you make a few for yourself or for gifts, they sure will brighten the days of those who see/use them!
You can sew such heart placemats and coasters in no time! They are quilted but you finish them without binding, which decreases considerably the time needed for one piece.
You can make hearts in any size! I included in the pattern templates in two sizes: 7” and 18”. If you need a heart smaller than 18”, you just print the 18” template at a reduced scale. If you want a heart smaller than 7”, reduce the 7” template.
My placemats measure 14”.
The pattern shows how to finish your piece into a PERFECT heart shape – just a little trick is needed!
This edge quilting guide helps you to echo the heart design for quilting, without marking; I hope your machine has such attachment, it’s incredibly useful!
If you want to sew a grid quilting, like I did on my coasters, you can do it easily and quickly, with just a minor change in the technique!
