Eat That Frog is a book by the famous Brian Tracy. Here is an excerpt from Brian's website(click here to learn more): Mark Twain once said that if the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that that is probably the worse things that is going to happen to you all day long. Your “frog” is your biggest, most important … [Read more...]
New Patchwork Quilt Pattern
Hello, friends! I am so glad to show you my latest quilt. Let's start with the top! Here are a few of the 54 blocks I made. The beautiful fabric is from the Fossil Fern collection by Benartex. In spite of the intricate look, the pattern is really simple. I wanted to make the piecing as quick, easy and accurate as possible, so I made a few versions until I was happy! Oops, only … [Read more...]
Small wholecloth quilt – free motion quilting practice
Hello friends! Here is a new wholecloth quilt, it's small, the rosette measures 20''. This design can be quilted with the walking foot; it can also be free motion quilted- this is what I chose to do. I used a puffy, polyester batting and the texture achieved is just amazing! I quilted the rosettes and then I washed the quilt, in order to get rid of the marking lines. I … [Read more...]
Free Motion Quilting- burning questions answered!
A few weeks ago I received this message from Ellen: Good Afternoon Geta, I love your work and I am now ready to practice free motion quilting. I do have a few questions for you that never seem to be completely answered on any quilting tutorials I have read. Rainbow coaster
Isn't this block (from the Loving Hugs patterns) wonderful? I have made many two-color versions, now I am glad to see the rainbow version. I started with a 2'' octagon (1 1/2'' finished) and this is the first row of triangles added around the octagon... And this is the second row. It measures now 8 1/2''. Happy quilting! Want to learn more about this piecing … [Read more...]
A special binding
Hello friends! Do you love preparing and sewing binding to your quilts? For me, this is not a favorite task. I want to finish it as soon as possible! Usually, I cut straight strips from one of the fabrics used in the quilt and this is my binding. Many times I am lazy and I join the strips with straight seams (not a crime, of course, but here quilt police is right: the bias seams are … [Read more...]
New Wholecloth Quilt Pattern
Do you remember these little white hexagon flowers? I love the look so much and I thought to quilt an entire flower sphere with this motif. And here is the result: The flowers are small and easy to quilt and you may think that I changed the color of the thread after each flower? Not at all! I quilted with the same color 4-5 flowers then I changed the thread and quilted other … [Read more...]
Ideas for using gradation/ombre fabric for quilting
There are a few cool things about my latest quilts. One is the reverse applique technique, then it's the knife and then the pair design+fabric. I started with simple solid fabric but there are so many options for all the 18 designs included in the pattern. For my next two samples I used a gradation/ombre fabric - it's called Gelato by Daiwabo for E.E. Schenck (I bought it from … [Read more...]
Reverse applique – a double reward technique for quilters!
Hello, friends! Yesterday I shared a new quilt design with you and today I thought to show you what I made with it! A cutting machine makes the cutting away perfect, but since I don't have it, I thought to work hard and make something with my new pretty design. So here is what I did: NOTE: I don't know how I forgot to take the first pictures of the process! 1. I transferred the design … [Read more...]
New Free Quilt Designs
I added new designs to my Library of free quilt designs, available for my newsletter subscribers (form subscription in the sidebar, if you want to gain access to these resources). First, I made this one - it's fun, but a little too complicated for a quick quilt! You could use it for coloring - it's Sunday, after all!! Then I made this version... still too many pieces... So I … [Read more...]
