Continuing the free motion quilting fun

August 5, 2016 1 Comment

Do you recall my current free motion quilting project? Lots and lots of pretty designs to sew! Here is Part 1, then Part 2. Part 3 is for the 8-petal designs- see below. So easy, so fun! Twisted!  On most designs I quilted stippling, on this one I did something different; if the background is heavily quilted, the quilting will enhance the center stitching. Twisted … [Read more...]

Fossil Fern Fabric for Quilts and Bags

August 4, 2016 3 Comments

I have made so many quilts lately with the pretty Fossil Fern fabric (by Benartex) that I had to make a new order. I think this is one of the prettiest fabric collections of all time (there are more than 120 colors in this line). I recall my first fabric order in a quilt shop in the USA, about 16 years ago; I had to order from a quilt shop because I did not know how the fabric for quilting … [Read more...]

Creative Labels for Quilts

August 3, 2016 45 Comments

Block #50 of The Splendid Sampler will be released tomorrow and everyone agrees that this requires big celebration!  So the designers of the blocks thought to make something special for all the quilters that sew this sampler- check out the celebration's  party here. A quilt with 100 different blocks is definitely a special quilt. And it deserves a special label. Actually, each quilt is special … [Read more...]

Free Quilt Design

July 31, 2016 14 Comments

Here is a new free quilt design for my newsletter subscribers. It looks simple and modern and it is easy to sew. It measures 14'' but it could be printed at a reduced scale if you need a smaller design. It could be a pretty quilting motif, enhanced by trapunto or shadow trapunto, or just an appliqued design (fusible raw edge applique is the easiest and fastest applique technique). If you … [Read more...]

My block for the Splendid Sampler

Hello friends and welcome, new readers! Almost one year ago Pat and Jane asked me if I want to design a block for a sampler quilt along. Of course, I said "yes!". You probably already heard about the Splendid Sampler. Are you sewing the blocks? If not, you need to check the Splendid Sampler website;  there are 100 blocks (almost half of them already released), all the blocks are wonderful … [Read more...]

Wholecloth quilts- pure fun!

July 10, 2016 4 Comments

Do you recall these small pieces? I shared with you that designing and sewing them was addictive! And I hardly could stop at only a few designs: I made designs with 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, and 20 petals. And then for each design, I had to make a few variations: 5 for most of them, fewer for the 4 and 6-petal designs. All my designs measure 14''; this will be my new wholecloth quilt pattern and … [Read more...]

English paper pieced quilt pattern

March 17, 2016 1 Comment

I finished my English paper pieced pieces - so much fun! It all started with a small octagon and 8 triangles that surround it. The pieces could be finished at this stage... ...but I chose to add another row of bigger triangles. I fused my pieces to some heavyweight interfacing  (Decovil) and "quilted" them. I now have two coasters and a little placemat. Of … [Read more...]
