New technique, new quilt, new pattern

Fusible raw edge applique quilt; I love the different look achieved after quilting; the zig zag stitching is not only functional, it's part of the design. Click through to find out more.

I finally finished this quilt top (fusible raw edge applique) I made last summer.

I love the different look achieved after quilting.

What do you think?

It was a pleasure to select the fabrics (Fossil Fern by Benartex) – it looks beautiful even without quilting.

When the fusing fun was over, I had to choose the color of thread to use for quilting.

Big, big decision! I knew it has to be a neutral color that works nicely with all the fabric colors.

As you can see, the zig zag stitching that secures the edges of the applique pieces is not only functional, it’s part of the design.

Aurifil kindly sent me a box of neutral threads for a (secret for now) project- THANK YOU!
You know, I LOVE quilting in neutral colors! I rarely quilt in other colors.
And I chose this sand color and it was just PERFECT!

On each piece I quilted feathers in the same color.
On the background I quilted “spaced” pebbles – it textured the background wonderfully but it was a nightmare to make the quilt lay flat after washing (more about that in the future, I have learned some valuable lessons).

Do you recall this quilt I made a few months ago?

Kona cotton solid fabric and white thread – I love the look of this quilt too.

I would be EXTREMELY happy to see new versions of this quilt, because I LOVE the design so much. I hope you love it too.

Happy sewing and thank you for your support.

Really, really like both versions you made. I couldn’t choose between them if asked. I love the techniques you’ve highlighted in this post and very much appreciate the close-up photos. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent!
