An Award for Romanian Quilters

Do you remember this quilt?
It’s in Houston now and won a 3rd place into the Group Category- we are happy and excited.

See all the winners of the Quilts: A World of Beauty judged show here.

Here there are its creators.

Sanda, Mihaela, Geta, Ortansa, Ela si Silvia

An award for non-quilters too –  my sisters –  that are missing in these pictures.

One Romanian peasant blouse for each of us –  a symbol of Romanian tradition.

Until this summer, I did not know what quilts meant to me.
On its way to Houston, somehow the postal service managed to lose it; for a few days, I thought that we would never see it again. I was worried because this is not my quilt. I thought about the countless hours of work my friends put into it. But the predominant feeling was the gratitude that I had the chance to stitch on it.
So, with awards or no awards, I am happy that I still make quilts for pleasure!

Thank you for all the encouragement  you send us through this blog and to my quilting friends – YOU are the best!

Edited to add- November 2023:
It’s been 10 years since we created that masterpiece.

Recently, I stumbled upon the photos of our entire journey back in 2013. I was surprised that I had documented this experience with so many pictures. While browsing through the images, I didn’t remember the long hours of hand sewing or the hard work; instead, feelings of gratitude, excitement, and joy flooded back to me. I remembered the dedication, friendship, and the incredible teamwork.

I spent the last few days creating a short video out of those photos to share this amazing experience with all of the friends who were a part of this project and with you!

For you, this video illustrates all the significant steps in creating this quilt. But for us, it represents three to four months of our lives dedicated to this unique project.

Here’s the video; I hope it brings a smile to your face and maybe even inspires you.

Happy sewing!

  1. What a great birthday gift to win an award! So glad it did not get lost for good and that it made it to Houston so it could compete. I am "over the moon" happy for you all!
