Wide scrappy binding

August 24, 2011 22 Comments

I am more and more in love with wide scrappy binding.
I like to cut scraps of the same length  – the binding looks great and it is easy to calculate how many pieces you need.
My pieces were cut 3.5 inches wide and my finish binding is 0.5″ wide.
I have to wash it then to take some good pictures.
But only after I will handed it to my hubby. Today is his 44 anniversary!

I hope you are having fun today!

You are so clever. I don't know if my fingers would be able to connect with little pieces like that, but oh my, it looks fabulous!

I like your project so much, I pinned it on pinterest. Squiggly quilting, solids, interesting block, wide binding, scrappy binding – so much inspiration in one quilt. Thank you for sharing.

Love the binding. I was thinking of using it on a quilt I was putting together yesterday and seeing yours makes me more convinced it would be the right thing to do. Do you cut your binding 4" to finished 1/2"?

How do you manage the seams in your pieced binding? I have to sew mine on the bias so the seams spiral, otherwise I get bumps.
Oh, and for your little nephew: keep your empty plastic thread spools, kids just love these!

What an awesome idea. Thank you for sharing it. It's always a nuisance when you don't have enough of the perfect fabric for binding. I love the quilt. I'm sure hubby will too.
