A purse for me

May 1, 2009 12 Comments

After a few days of work for my shadow trapunto pattern, I felt the need to sew something. It seems that for me this is the season of bags. So I wanted to sew a new bag.

I layered some fabrics and started to quilt. But I couldn’t quilt at all ! I had just skip stitches and broken threads. It seemed that my sewing machine need a good cleaning ( after I tried, without success, to do other things to solve the problem ).

One thing I don’t like at my domestic Pfaff sewing machine is I can’t clean the machine myself. I need the help of my husband. There is not an easy access to all the areas that need to be cleaned.
To shorten the story, I had to sew something without using free motion quilting. So I made a bag using just a layer of fabric not quilted fabric I usually use.

And this is the bag:

I always loved a sturdy bag that keep its shape and stands on its own.
And when I finished my floppy bag I was sure that it will go to the trash.

But when I filled it with my stuff, I was amazed to see how nice the bag looks and how comfortable it is.

The fabric I used looks like the back of leather, it is thin but strong enough for a bag. I love it !

Doesn’t look like your usual bags but it is still very pretty and looks very useful.

I love all your quilted bags. I have been knitting more than quilting lately, but seeing your work inspires me. Thanks.

What a nice girly bag this is. Lovely! Do you know what I do with my Pfaff when it needs a good cleaning? I have a sprayer filled with air, I can blow away all the dust in every tiny corner. Those airsprayers are also used for photocamera’s etc. maybe an idea for you, too?
