Dancing Feathers- a new shadow trapunto quilt

July 3, 2008 9 Comments

I finished the latest shadow trapunto quilt.
It wasn’t as large as the last quilt, so this time quilting was an enjoyable experience.

Dancing Feathers
95 x 98 cm / 37.5 x38.5 inch
—————————————————
I made this quilt for a contest with the theme:”Feathers”.
I draw the design with Electric Quilt.
I just love Electric Quilt. In the last year I spent a lot of time drawing patterns with this quilt design software.

In ultimul an am petrecut o gramada de timp utilizand acest program.

The entire quilt is quilted with Invisible Thread. I used almost a spool of 1500 yards.

The tiniest motif (2 inch):
Cel mai mic motiv (5 cm)

A large one:
Unul mai mare

———————————————————-
Quilting with invisible thread creates such a nice texture…

Quiltingul cu ata transparenta creeaza o textura asa frumoasa…

I chose to put under organza a light color fabric rather than a bold one.
Maybe a bold and bright fabric shows up the trapunto pattern more clearly but I still chose to use a light green fabric. I am very pleased with the final appearance of the quilt.I love the subtle and smooth transition between batting and background.

The background fabric is from Patricia Campbell collection: “Not so solid”.
She is famous for her fabric line ”Fossil Fern’ from Benartex. This collection had 170 colors ! View some of these fabrics on the
Cotton Club store.

E din colectia Patricia Campbell “Not so solid”.

Your shadow trapunto is exquisite — I’m not at all surprised that three of your pieces have been accepted to the Houston Festival. 🙂 Which technique for shadow trapunto do you use?
