Shadow Trapunto Quilt

October 14, 2014 4 Comments

Here is a Mariner's Compass block on a 12-side shadow trapunto quilt. It measures 17''. Most of my quilts are free motion quilted, but for this trapunto design I used the walking foot. I couldn't have stitched straight lines without it.   These shadow trapunto quilts are truly two sided. On the front you see shadow trapunto, on the back is visible the trapunto. See other shadow … [Read more...]

Shadow trapunto quilts- duplicating quilt designs

September 21, 2014 6 Comments

Do you duplicate the quilts you like a lot? Like making one more version, maybe with other type of prints, or other color palette, but keeping the same pattern? It happened to me only a few times (but I do have a list of quilts I would like to make again someday). Here is one example. You would be tempted to say it is not the same pattern- but it is. These are two shadow trapunto pillows. … [Read more...]

How to quilt spaced pebbles

August 16, 2014 17 Comments

quilt spaced pebbles

Learn to quilt spaced pebbles It's easy- but time consuming as all the pebbles! And it takes a lot of thread! More than you think! Start stitching the pebble as usual. Then outline the first stitching with a new stitching, close to the previous one, but not on top of it. Repeat 3-4 times. Then start a new pebble, leaving enough space between them so they don't overlap. It's fun and … [Read more...]

April 5, 2013 25 Comments

This shadow trapunto quilting tutorial is part of the series 1 Design - 5 Quilting Techniques. Here is the shadow trapunto sample I stitched  for this tutorial.   Many layers! The shadow trapunto quilt has 5 layers. From top to bottom: organza (a sheer fabric), trapunto design made from batting (the white part), and the 3 layers of the familiar  quilt "sandwich". This kind of … [Read more...]

The anatomy of a quilt

May 12, 2012 67 Comments

Do you remember this top ? And this top ? They became this! My largest shadow trapunto quilt -  55'' x 55''. When I started working on this quilt, there were two options: if everything goes well, I will make a beautiful quilt. If something goes wrong, instead of one quilt, I will make two- an applique quilt and a simple shadow trapunto. My concern was that the trapunto design … [Read more...]

Quilts from My Book

January 15, 2012 15 Comments

Here is the quilt that ended up on the cover of my book. It's so ironic because blue is the color I like the least! There were three quilts considered  to be on the cover and none of them was green! It wasn't my choice and  it was such a good thing because I could not have chose one. It is a small quilt, about 22'' square". I love the back, the white fabric allows the design to … [Read more...]

Shadow Trapunto Christmas Quilts

November 1, 2009 20 Comments

This is my collection of Christmas quilts. I used these designs to make shadow trapunto quilts ( because this is my passion), but they could be used for other quilting techniques, too. I tried to make quick and easy designs. This piece could be stitched in one day... I made this in less than one day... I love postcards ! The same magic of shadow trapunto in a little piece that can be made … [Read more...]

The quilt for my favorite singer !

September 14, 2009 12 Comments

Last night we came back from Paris. We spent there a wonderful vacation !Paris has many, many wonders, everyone dreams to see them some day. I saw some of them, they impressed me, but nothing compares with the two shows of Mylene Farmer on Stade de France. Mylene is one of the most successful recording artists of all time in France. She lives in France, but the Canadians can also be proud of her … [Read more...]

Another surprise for a friend

April 26, 2009 11 Comments

I made this colorful little piece for my friend Mary. She makes wonderful quilts. I am in love with her scrap quilts and I admire her patience in making difficult things, like this quilt. Do you remember this table runner ? I loved so much that multicolored fabric. This type of fabric is my first option for background. This little piece measures about 10". This design remind me of the … [Read more...]
