Fun with folded strips

December 22, 2023 3 Comments

I have many favorite sewing techniques, but this one that uses folded strips of fabrics is in TOP 3!

Here is what you can do with some multicolor batik.

This is a very easy technique!

When the design was completed, I didn’t like the color of the center patch at all, so I had to find a way to change it! You may encounter this problem too (especially if you work on a multicolor design), so here is what you have to do:

Create the center piece again, but a little smaller: cut the original piece first then trim at 1/4” from each edge.
Then slip the piece under the first row of folded strips and fuse it.

You have to secure the raw edges of the piece in some way, so you just topstitch close to the folded edges of the first row of strips.

Here is the technique demonstrated in a few minutes.

And this is my AMAZING pillow! There are so many multicolor fabrics available in shops – if the day would have more than 24 hours!

I still have another version, stitched last year…

This pillow in pastel rainbow is one of my favorite projects EVER!

Beautiful, I did folded triangle trivets. Would love to try this, is you base that you stitch all your strips on, fabric or is it a premarked template please and do you stitch each row as you go. Thank you so much for sharing this.
