My new bags

November 22, 2013 25 Comments

I am so excited, because stitching these two bags, I learned something new.

First I made this one, with beautiful heavyweight fabric from Ikea.  A new trip to Ikea is in line, because this fabric is gorgeous. They have a version with blue instead of pink and grey gingham. I need them NOW!

My first try of stitching a hidden zippered pocket.

 It wasn’t successful!

A little more work  and fabric for rounded corners and a side gusset.
And it turned out too big.

So I tried a smaller version. Less work, less fabric..

…and an almost perfect pocket.

Did you notice the 2- color strap ? I love it!

Now, I am undecided: small or big?  Rounded corners  or not ? Here in the family, there are fans for both!
What do you think ?

Have a great weekend,
Geta

Definitely small. For that style bag you've made it look very up to date. I love your work, you are so precise! Love your patterns and have almost all of them.

Geta, I could see using both for different reasons. For an every day bag I would choose the leather. It looks rich and elegant with clean lines and the contrasting colors add just the right amount of pizazz! Hidden zipper a bonus! I am looking forward to sewing up the Amelie bag. I finished sewing the double zipper pouch, which turned out great! Your directions are fabulous!!

The hidden zipper is a great idea! I love the size and style of the leather bag, and the two colors on the strap looks so nice!
Ikea has such nice fabric and after seeing your bag I really need to take the time and go buy some!!

It seems I need to go to Ikea too. I would never think of making the hidden zipper this way. Pretty cool addition to the bag but I would probably put it the other way round.

They're both so gorgeous. It's useless asking me because I love them both. Love the fabric and leather and your stitching is impeccable.

Personally, I'd go for small. Nothing to do with your pockets, but because I end up with headaches from overfilling larger handbags! Both are lovely, hope you get to IKEA soon ๐Ÿ™‚

Both are great, but if I had to choose a favourite it would be the small one.

I think they're beautiful! I like the rounded and square corners but the rounded is a nice change from the boxy ones. I wish we had an Ikea store nearby so I could get gorgeous fabric like that! ๐Ÿ™‚

Why shall I chose one of them? I like both, for different situations. The little one has more style, but the big one is so practical. So, make two patterns please!

I do like the small bag better, though the larger one would work better in other situations. I guess it's a personal preference thing.

I love this bag, or should I say BOTH bags! I prefer boxed corners in a bag, love both sizes though! I just discovered your blog and I'm deciding which bag I want to make first!

I'm no help because I like both. I think the larger pink is very sweet! I'd like to make that one next. I already have one in the smaller size.
