Octagon in octagon

So I started with an1″ octagon.

The result is also an octagon.

I thought to apply the same geometry and I made a bigger block.

…and bigger…

…and bigger…

Then I thought it is not big enough (30″) and it has too much green so I added one more triangle row (purple and pink). And I made a monster…
Much bigger than I wanted… The triangles were cut out from 30” squares.
So I tried to make it smaller … and I decreased the triangles… no success! I had  to remove them!

Then I had another brilliant idea (!)…

I did not like it either so I removed them all…

And after 6 hours of work and 4 yards less in my stash, I finished it this way. And I like it. It was the original idea.

It still has too much green !I hope it will look even better after quilting.

There are many possibilities to color this quilt. In another life, I will probably try one more…  with white space between two rows of triangles.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I love your artistry. I actually like it best with the white, yellow, orange and pink strips surrounding the green. Such talent to be able to do the math and play like this. Thanks for sharing with me.

  2. I love this! Will you share the measurements you came up with for the triangles for those of us not so good at the math part?

  3. It must be your playfulness (not to mention your creativity) that makes me such a huge fan! It love how the triangles spiral and converge at the center. Lovely idea, Geta!

  4. This is as stunning as all your projects are. I like this way, maybe because green is my favorite color, but it's great too with the pink stripes around.

  5. Geta, your designs are INCREDIBLE!! I can't wait to make your Flower Ball. I'm not sure if I'll make a wall hanging or quilt. It seems a bit advanced for me. Is that your quilting at the top of your blog? If so, I wish I lived closer so I could send my quilts to you. Thanks for sharing.
