Rainbow Quilt Finished

And I love it!

I usually like to use a background that offers more contrast ( like white) but this gray fabric worked good as well.

Some rules of quilting can be safely broken but there is one that I will ever follow from now on – starting  quilting from the center to the outside. Especially for circular designs.
I was too confident –  in me, in the cotton batting, in my sewing machine. I wanted to take as reference the outer edge of the colored design so I started quilting from the outside to the center.

But the batting wasn’t actually 100% cotton  ( it was 80/20, and there is a difference between them, the quilt top shifts on the 80/20 batting),  the walking foot of my machine doesn’t work as it worked 10 years ago and I was too much in a hurry to finish it…

So when I reached the center patch, I counted 7 puckers. I stitched 2 rows of stitching around the grey patch and somehow I managed to flatten them.  Lesson learned!

On the back there are a  few puckers too, but I hope my little nephew Alex will not notice them.
I am glad that I took the time to piece the binding with diagonal seams.

I love the look of straight stitching. I don’t have enough patience to rotate the quilt under the needle and stitch with a walking foot .But someday I will buy a new machine that will help me in this matter. And then I will have more quilts quilted in this way.

  1. I bet your nephew will see only the bikes on the back 😉 and the beautiful colors on the front… as any innocent child do. So that we'll all try to remain innocent and see only the beauty of this quilt ;).

  2. Wow – turned out so pretty. Did you get dizzy going round and round? I don't even see a single pucker so you did a good job making them disappear.

  3. I absolutely love all your quilts (quilting)! This one is no exception to that feeling. I, too, loved the straight lines you did. Keep on quilting; I love following your blog.
