Hexy Coasters

I can’t believe how much I enjoy stitching hexagons by hand!!! I don’t know where I find patience but I can’t wait to start the new (and large) project, in a few weeks!

I made coasters!

Thank you all for the tips you left on my blog, they really help me. I just have to find a tool to punch holes in the center of the templates, I spent some time removing them.

I fused the hexagons to heavyweight interfacing (here is the technique) and I used from my lefovers all the little pieces, even 1.5″ wide strips.

I join the strips with zig-zag stitches.
It was more fun to join the hexagons than to fuse them and stitch them in place. I will not make other coasters too soon!

Happy weekend!

  1. Greta, your coasters are wonderful! What fun they must be to see around the house 🙂 … I'm also stopping by to let you know that a very special package arrived at my house today, from yours, and I absolutely adore the bag … adore it!! Thank you so much!!

  2. These are marvelous! I'm also wondering if the fusible would work as a permanent template within each hexie.

Also, Whyyyyyyyy has it never occurred to me to zig-zag all those leftover scraps of fusible together like you did? Thanks for the idea!! Now my little box of scraps is validated. ;D

  3. Draga Geta, stiu ca nu exista coincidente pe lume, dar si eu m-am apucat de hexagoane de vreo saptamana. Am sa le aplic pe o poseta. Pun in curand poze pe blog. Ai folosit freezer paper?

  4. Geta when I do hexagons I use freezer paper instead of plastic templates. all you do is take two pieces of freezer paper and press one to the other one leaving one sticky side clear. That will be what you press to your fabric. By doubleing the freezer paper you make your pieces much more stable. This works so well be cause you have no pinning and extra things to carry along with you. simply press the freezer paper to the back of the fabric and cut out all of your little hexies orrrrr cut out a page of hexies and then press them to the backs of your fabrics.
