My husband’s quilt

Thank you for the nice messages you sent me, I am feeling better…

I am glad I can finally show you the quilt (well, the top) I made for my husband.
Here is, I love it !!! My husband loves it too.
I used a few suggestions you kindly offered me in a previous post… thank you !!!

I managed to make it in time for February 14.
It measures 80″ X 90″ ( 2 x 2.25 m ) and has 42 12″ blocks.

From this fabric I made kaleidoscope blocks, in two sizes…

then I added strips and here are the final blocks…

I wasted a little fabric ( I did that for the first time !), but surprisingly I did not feel guilty…

I used this fabric for borders since it did not find its place in the pieced blocks …
I bought it special for this project so I just had to use it. I am glad I have enough for binding.

I like the effect produced by the white strips…

and I am crazy about this toast fossil fern fabric…

I did not pay attention at all where I placed the green and the blue blocks, I was in such a hurry to finish piecing before the arrival of my husband. I am not entirely happy with this setting but what is done is done !

I worked two days on it but I did not feel too good, normally piecing would take less time….

I have worries too…
  1. I did not pre-wash the fabrics, I did not want to distord the striped fabric. But I usually make a dense quilting and I hope there will not be any problem.I never pre-wash the fabric I use for kaleidoscope, but this time I did not pre-wash any fabric.
  2. I don’t know when I will quilt it…I hope I will do that before his birthday, in August !
Do you like this quilt ? I will write a tutorial in a few days…

  1. E foarte frumos!

  2. It's wonderful! And sooooo fast! I wish I could squize in just a little more time to play with my yarns and fabrics…
Can't wait to see the tutorial! The look is beautiful!

    Warm hugs,
    Sandra

  3. Da, ne place 🙂 E foarte frumos! Si intr-adevar faptul ca patratele nu stau la rand ii da dinamism si veselie. Bravo Geta, din nou ceva minunat iesit din mainile tale.

  4. That's a great 'man' quilt! I have such a hard time using stripes that I hardly buy any…well not for quilting anyway, but they sure do make an easy 'square in a square block. Love the colors…and that border fabric especially….love the bubbly effect…

  5. It came out just beautiful! Don't worry about the layout; I am discovering that even if I spend hours on block placement I am never entirely saisfied. Nobody but you sees anything amiss, believe me! I would love to see a tutorial, you do such fine work.

  6. Love, love, love this quilts. It looks like great fun for the maker and for husband. Great job! Thank you for sharing your methods.

  7. Love it,, Glad you are better..
Alot of people dont wash their fabrics any more.. The fabrics back in the day needed to be washed because of fading now days the fabric is better. I don't thin you will have any problems. The only time I prewash is for the baby quilts .
    Hugs
    Susan

  8. Geta, that is the first "tilted" block quilt I can truly say I like. It really was the right move to put the dots on the border. Don't worry about the layout, sometimes I think we get too orderly. This quilt demands differences! I knew you could do it!

  9. It is a real "mans" quilt Geta, good on you. I like how you mixed the stripes with the spots and the layout looks great. I think what appeals to me personally is the colouring you used…it is so fresh.
    Cheers
