I finally finished this pattern. More information about the pattern here. The block of this quilt was the inspiration for this set of boxes. … [Read more...]

Rainbow Quilt Finished

April 17, 2012 33 Comments

And I love it! I usually like to use a background that offers more contrast ( like white) but this gray fabric worked good as well. Some rules of quilting can be safely broken but there is one that I will ever follow from now on - starting  quilting from the center to the outside. Especially for circular designs. I was too confident -  in me, in the cotton batting, in my sewing machine. … [Read more...]

Zig zag quilt finished

April 11, 2012 9 Comments

This is such a quick and easy quilt. The pattern can be made with half square triangles (a lot of work!), but I used this tutorial  - piecing strips, cutting squares and piecing blocks on point. I would have liked more a quilting done with perfectly straight stitching  (and walking foot).  But rotating the quilt under the needle every few inches is not for me. Not now, at least. I … [Read more...]

WIP

April 6, 2012 6 Comments

I tried something and I am disappointed. I would have needed 4 polka dot fabrics. And I would have made 2 baby quilts at once. I have to come up with something else in the next 10 minutes! The rainbow quilt is quilted, I have to wash it. Wishing you a great weekend, Geta … [Read more...]

My Rainbow Quilt

April 4, 2012 22 Comments

I finished the top. At first I made this. This was the initial idea for the design. Please pretend that the floor is the background fabric. It would have been a quick and pretty quilt... Then a new idea and I made this... and this... Then I spent some time thinking of how to finish it. One of the ideas was to make a quilt with 12 sides. It would have been a pretty play mat for Alex. Or a … [Read more...]

Anxious to sew

April 3, 2012 5 Comments

These are the pieces for my next quilt- a baby quilt. Plus a little background. I already did things I usually don't like - templates, marking intersection points on fabric.  The fabric - rainbow Kona cotton from my stash. I want to teach the colors to Alex. It might be just a dream, since Alex is only 19 months old. I don't think my hubby knows the difference between turquoise and fuchsia. … [Read more...]

Miniature Quilt

March 16, 2012 30 Comments

It is great to test new designs on miniature quilts. As I don't make miniatures often, I almost forgot how quickly a quilt can be made. And, if there are lessons to be learned, then it is great  to learn them without too much work/wasting/regrets. I am not fond of fusible web, I don' t like stiff patches. But fusible web has some advantages.  I printed the templates on it and my … [Read more...]

Loving Hugs Quilt

March 12, 2012 16 Comments

I finally managed to take photos of this quilt. I love how it turned out. I wanted an aqua-red quilt but since I don't have too many fabrics in these colors in my stash, I had to add green, pink, turquoise. The quilting is simple, done with free motion and wavy lines. Initially, I thought that stippling would be great too (since the prints are so busy), but I wanted to see a little more … [Read more...]

Cute finds

February 21, 2012 5 Comments

I found these on  Fabric Depot website.   I can't live without thread snips. They are essentials for my shadow trapunto quilts. And for cutting thread while I piece my quilts, or cleaning the edge of the quilt before adding binding. I don't use too often regular, big scissors. So I need tons of these. I think I have about 10 in my "studio" so I can easily find one in any place I need … [Read more...]
