Sewing for Christmas- easy and fun ideas

November 23, 2018 3 Comments

I can't say fussy cutting is my passion, but when it comes to sewing for Christmas, I do whatever it takes to make some pretty  fussy cut projects. I also love repetition, so more pieces with the same fussy cut motif make sewing for Christmas even more interesting. This is the starting point of my Folded Flowers pattern and 5'' circles. At first I made these little … [Read more...]

A quilt that came as a gift!

October 19, 2018 1 Comment

Do you remember these pieces, cut out from this top? 522 applique pieces, backed with fusible web. I did nothing to achieve them! I was just making another quilt! This is the quilt. Isn't this reverse applique technique cool? It is inspired by the work of wonderful papercut artist; they make such intricate cutting on small pieces of paper, something I could never make with fabric. But … [Read more...]

A technique that gifted me 522 applique pieces

October 17, 2018 2 Comments

So it all started with a beautiful rainbow panel, Supernova Starburst (Hoffman Fabrics) and an Excel knife + a design and some fusible web. And a cutout job that is so relaxing! The design measures 33'', the space in between pieces is big enough, so cutting this design was pure joy. The next step in the big reveal: removing the paper backing of the fusible web. With … [Read more...]

How to sew faux trapunto

October 14, 2018 2 Comments

Quilting tips - faux trapunto - or what you can do with two layers of batting. #freemotionquilting #trapunto

Do you quilt with two layers of batting? For this quilt-as-you-go quilt I used for some blocks cotton+a fluffy polyester batting and this gives such a wonderful definition to my quilting. But this time I wanted to use cotton+wool and I wanted to mimic the trapunto look without stitching trapunto. So here is a small faux-trapunto sample. I traced the design on fabric and outlined it several … [Read more...]

Eat that frog! And how it applies to quilting

August 30, 2018 18 Comments

Eat That Frog is a book by the famous Brian Tracy. Here is an excerpt from Brian's website(click here to learn more): Mark Twain once said that if the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that that is probably the worse things that is going to happen to you all day long. Your “frog” is your biggest, most important … [Read more...]

New Patchwork Quilt Pattern

August 29, 2018 2 Comments

Hello, friends! I am so glad to show you my latest quilt. Let's start with the top! Here are a few of the 54 blocks I made. The beautiful fabric is from the Fossil Fern collection by Benartex. In spite of the intricate look, the pattern is really simple. I wanted to make the piecing as quick, easy and accurate as possible, so I made a few versions until I was happy! Oops, only … [Read more...]

Small wholecloth quilt – free motion quilting practice

July 14, 2018 1 Comment

Hello friends! Here is a new wholecloth quilt, it's small, the rosette measures 20''. This design can be quilted with the walking foot; it can also be free motion quilted- this is what I chose to do. I used a puffy, polyester batting and the texture achieved is just amazing! I quilted the rosettes and then I washed the quilt, in order to get rid of the marking lines. I … [Read more...]

How to turn an octagon into a square

April 27, 2018 6 Comments

I started this quilt a few years ago (pattern here) and I am happy that  I am finishing it (my baby nephew needs a new quilt!). It started with a 2'' octagon; 8 triangles surround it. The result is a new octagon. Other triangles were added and a new octagon was born. One more time! Isn't the Fossil Fern fabric (by Benartex) gorgeous? A new octagon! I love this shape but it … [Read more...]

New Wholecloth Quilt Pattern

March 1, 2018 1 Comment

Do you remember these little white hexagon flowers? I love the look so much and I thought to quilt an entire flower sphere with this motif. And here is the result: The flowers are small and easy to quilt and you may think that I changed the color of the thread after each flower? Not at all! I quilted with the same color 4-5 flowers then I changed the thread and quilted other … [Read more...]
