Another kind of Grandmother’s Flower Garden

June 1, 2012 22 Comments

I can’t believe what I am about to write: “A 200 piece English paper pieced quilt  is a quick project!”

Here is my latest quilt top.

It’s a cloudy day here and I am disappointed that I can’t take better pictures.

The colors are brighter than in these pictures.

I enjoyed so much to make it…

and I am thinking about new designs and fabric combinations.

Here is the back.

And here are a few WIP photos:

The sphere is 30″ (75 cm) in diameter.

The back with paper templates still there –  it looks good (idea for a new design!).

I enjoyed even removing the basting stitches and pulling out the paper templates.

In love forever with the fabulous English paper piecing technique!
Wishing you a great weekend!
~Geta- definitely  wiser, after the making of this project! And more aware than ever of her biggest fault: the impatience.

Wish you were here to teach me how to design shapes like this in EQ in order to have the correct size pieces around the outside edges and even to just design the total shape. I will never really figure out how to use EQ.

Love it – I have been gathering my pieces of fabric to make a similar quilt. I posted it about it last weekend on my blog can't wait to get started – just need to get a few other projects out of the way.

The design wasn't made in EQ, Mary.

It's beautiful! I love that all the fabrics came from one line, so the little pattern is continuous throughout the quilt. So amazing!

Wow ! this one is stunning, too. I'm wondering : when you'll stop ? 😀 I feel that you are not impatient but restless in patchwork. From where do you take all that energy 🙂 ?

Beijos.

Absolutely wonderful! Congrats on getting it pieced! One question for you…are all the hexagons the same size?…the finished piece gives the illusion of a ball and not a flat plate. Just astonishing!

I cannot believe you think you are impatient – I guess it all was hand sewn when joining the hexagons?? It looks fantastic.

Wow! That is simply gorgeous. I really love the way you've created this. I love the way it tricks the eye and makes the entire thing appear to be totally round and almost like it's floating ~ or maybe I just haven't had enough coffee and it's my eyes playing tricks on me. haha. Seriously, it is a very impressive work and beautiful. Great job!

Beautiful! I so want your book but I don't think I could even do as good as you do even with a book. I would love to see you do one with white, lime green, and all bright pinks. My favorite colors.

I LOVE it. The 3D effect. The hexies. I've only just started EPP myself and you're giving me ideas. Wonderful!
