Loving Hugs III – a small English paper pieced quilt pattern
The very center of the block is an octagon. 8 triangles are stitched around the octagon. The new shape is an octagon too.
You could finish the piece at this stage. You could make it in any size- instructions and measurements are included.
If you want a more complex piece (and bigger), you could add a second row of bigger triangles.
The pattern includes pieces in five sizes. I made pieces in the first three sizes.
Small piece size: 5 7/8” x 5 7/8”
Medium piece size: 8¾” x 8¾”
Large piece size: 11 5/8” x 11 5/8”
Measurements for other two (bigger) sizes are included too.
Learn three different ways to finish your blocks
I finished my pieces as coasters and a placemat. For these you need fusible heavyweight interfacing (like Peltex, Fast2Fuse, Decovil).
The blocks could be quilted on batting as well.
For bigger quilts or table runners, you could make a few blocks and appliqued them on a larger square background then piece the new blocks.
Great pattern for Christmas colors and pieces!
And here is an idea for a colorful set!
