Free Quilt Design

Here is a new free quilt design for my newsletter subscribers.

It looks simple and modern and it is easy to sew.
It measures 14” but it could be printed at a reduced scale if you need a smaller design.

It could be a pretty quilting motif, enhanced by trapunto or shadow trapunto, or just an appliqued design (fusible raw edge applique is the easiest and fastest applique technique).
If you need help, for all these techniques I have tutorials on the blog – check ou the tutorials.

The design is continuous – start stitching from the center, follow one of the lines toward the outside, come back to the center and move to the next line by stitching on the center circle and then repeat.
If you make it as applique (fusible raw edge applique is the easiest technique), make the center circle a little bigger, to cover those pointy edges of the petals.

Here is an example for the quilting outside the center design- it could be easily stitched even with the walking foot.

You don’t even need to trace the curved design; trace on fabric only the red lines; start quilting following the center design with the edge of the presser foot; the red lines will tell you where to stop and change the direction.

I prefer to stitch such quilting with the darning foot (the quilting is faster but the entire design has to be transferred to fabric).

Use a washable marker for tracing.

  1. Duh! Slow learner but didn’t realize until I read your comments that I could have stitched this block in one continuous application. Now I have to go and try it again!! 😀

  2. Thank you for your generosity! I completed your block soon after it was published using Heat and Bond and the piecing method. It is light yellow on a white background. I used a gray button stitch to help it stand out. I love how delicate it looks!

  3. Thank you so much for the free pattern. Your designs are all so lovely. I look forward to making your block, whenever it is that I get there. I have just started and have only made two blocks so far. Everyone’s blocks are definitely inspiring a lot of quilters.
