Here is the project I told you about last week. I made a tutorial for this drawstring bag for Sew Mama Sew. This drawstring bag is so quick to sew, you could sew a bunch in a few hours! It doesn't have lining, still the seams are strong and nice and the seam allowances- invisible! The tutorial is for a bag made out of two fabrics, but you could sew even a faster version using only … [Read more...]
How to Sew a Flat-Felled Seam
Flat felled seam is a strong seam with no raw edge exposed, with a clean and smooth finish on the inside. It's the seam commonly found on jeans and it is great for reversible garments too. I used this seam to join the pieces of a shopping bag. I did not want to use lining and I needed a seam with no raw edges exposed. I used quilt weight fabric for my bag (Heather Bailey). You might think … [Read more...]
French Seams Tutorial
A French seam is a simple way to create strong, professional-looking seam in any sewing project. The raw edges of the fabric are not visible, they are fully enclosed for a neat finish. French seams are great for clothing, home decor items or totes. They work really nicely on light- to medium-weight fabric. On heavier fabrics they will create bulky seams. For a piece of garment this might be … [Read more...]
Faux leather woven bag
My latest faux leather woven bag. The last faux leather bag for now. I plan to make new floral bags for my sisters for summer. It was so easy to weave the faux leather strips in this pattern. I love how this dark chocolate brown works with the green colors. Pattern coming soon! Subscribe to my newsletter to learn about the new pattern release. Geta Save Save … [Read more...]
Pretty Zippered Pouches
I admit: on Friday evening at 8PM, after an exhausting day, the thought that I still have to sew two pouches was overwhelming! But once I started, the whole process was fun, quick and easy. The hardest thing that took me forever was to choose the fabric! I made these pouches for the kids of my future neighbors (hint, hint: we hope to move in our new house by the end of summer!). For a … [Read more...]
Triple Pouch – opinions, please!
I love sewing pouches. I made many Little Wonders, Twice as Nice or sweet lace pouches. And now without too much thinking, I made a triple pouch. A very functional pouch, very spacious, all those three compartments have boxed bottom. But I have a problem with it: it looks like a big, UGLY box! My hubby thinks it is because of the solid fabric - faux suede. Maybe... Maybe I could make it … [Read more...]
Oilcloth Shopping Bag
I was so anxious to sew with oilcloth! After so many faux leather bags, it was nice to try something new. I chose a simple pattern (my new shopping bag) and it was the best choice. So how is this oilcloth? Stiff! You wouldn't say this when you touch it, but when I had to turn the bag from one side to the other, I struggled a little! I stitched with the walking foot; the oilcloth … [Read more...]
New Bags
These are some bad pictures but the bags look really beautiful. I used the pattern of this bag, I just modified the size of some pieces. This faux leather is the perfect fabric- soft and flexible - for this pattern. What I love most at this bag is the simplicity of the top edge. A quilting weight fabric doubled with a medium interfacing is not soft and flexible anymore (some fusible … [Read more...]
New Tote Bag and Shopping Bag Patterns
The new bag patterns are finally available! Here is my latest bag.The pretty fabric is Up Parasol by Heather Bailey. The pattern is so versatile and the large front panel is great for showing off beautiful fabrics or patterns. I made these bags for my sisters and they don't want to change them with any other bag they have. I tested it myself, one bag is mine. I understand why they … [Read more...]
New Faux Leather Woven Bags
I am still having fun weaving faux leather. It takes little time. But finishing the bags made out these woven panels - that's a different story! That's why my collection of woven bags will have only four patterns! Here is one of the patterns. I made it first in this brown-cream-yellow combination. Then I thought to make a collection with all four patterns in assorted colors … [Read more...]
